Chair: Chris Graf (United Kingdom)

Chris Graf is the Research Integrity Director at Springer Nature (a position he has held since September 2021) and Leader of the Editorial Excellence Team (since January 2022). In these roles, he is in charge of leading the continued development and implementation of Springer Nature’s research integrity strategy, leading a 30-person team accountable for upholding the highest standards for research integrity in all of Springer Nature’s publications. Chris also serves the publishing sector with a voluntary role at the STM Association, the global trade association for academic and professional publishers, where he chairs a committee of senior publishing industry executives overseeing governance of the STM Integrity Hub. The STM Integrity Hub is an initiative launched early 2022 to equip the publishers (and the scholarly communication community) with data, intelligence, and technology to protect research integrity. In 2023 Chris was appointed to a position as committee member of the UK Committee on Research Integrity, a new organisation hosted by UKRI, that promotes research integrity across the UK and internationally.

Jennifer Byrne (Australia)

Jennifer Byrne is conjoint Professor of Molecular Oncology at the University of Sydney, Australia and Director of Biobanking with New South Wales Health Pathology. Jennifer trained at the University of Queensland and was a postdoctoral fellow in Strasbourg, France. She returned to Sydney to continue her career in laboratory-based cancer research and human tissue biobanking. Jennifer leads the PRIMeR (Publication and Research Integrity in Medical Research) group at the University of Sydney and the New South Wales Statewide Biobank, where she undertakes research and advocacy for transformed research publication standards and error correction capacity.

Costas Charitidis (Greece)

Costas Charitidis is Professor at the School of Chemical Engineering of NTUA and Director of RNanoLab, est. 2006. He has extensive R&D experience through collaborations with international research centres in the context of more than 60 projects funded by the European Commission and National funds, in many of them as Coordinator. He is a referee in International scientific journals, evaluator & scientific advisor of R&D projects. He is the author of several scientific books, chapters in international textbooks, and more than 400 scientific publications in peer-reviewed international journals and conference proceedings and his work has received ~7800 citations (h-index 44).

Deming Chau (Malaysia)

Dr. De Ming Chau is a senior lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is member of the Young Scientists Network-Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSM-ASM) and chairs the YSN-ASM Science Integrity Working Group. He is one of the co-founders of the YSN-ASM Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Programme. He is also a member of the Malaysian National Committee on Research Integrity. Dr. Chau actively conducts RCR workshops for researchers in Malaysia and in the region. He also develops RCR training curriculum that can be adapted for online learning environment.

Zoë Hammatt (United States)

Ms. Zoë Hammatt is a licensed attorney with a Master’s in Law and Ethics in Medicine from the University of Glasgow. She provides writing and research integrity consultation, and serves as Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. Zoë previously served as Director of the Division of Education and Integrity at the U.S. Office of Research Integrity, Legal and Regulatory Specialist for an NIH-funded translational research network, and Director of the Research Integrity Program and Research Integrity Officer at the University of Hawaii. Zoë is a founding member of research integrity networks in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and has served on the World Conferences on Research Integrity Governing Board since 2018. She serves as an Advisor for several programs, including the recently completed SOPs4RI project funded by the European Commission, which emphasises practical tools for research funders and research performing organisations. network, and Director of the Research Integrity Program and Research Integrity Officer at the University of Hawaii. She has handled numerous cases of alleged misconduct and other breaches of integrity and contributed to policy development and teaching in medical ethics and the responsible conduct of research in a global context. Zoë is a founding member of research integrity networks in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and has served on the World Conferences on Research Integrity Governing Board since 2018.

Lyn Horn (South Africa)

Lyn Horn is currently the Director of the Office of Research Integrity at UCT She is a medical doctor with a PhD in Bioethics. She worked as a clinician in the public health sector for the first twenty years of her career before transitioning to an academic work environment in 2004. Her academic interests include public health ethics and social justice, research ethics and more recently research integrity. She has been a member or chair of research ethics committees for the last 15 years (in both the biomedical and humanities domains). In her current position at UCT she is involved in promoting the responsible conduct of research across the university. In 2022 she was the South African Co-Chair for the 7th World Conference on Research Integrity held in Cape Town. She also led the process of developing the Cape Town Statement on Fostering Research Integrity through Equity and Fairness (publication in process).

Roxana Lescano (Peru)

My experience spans from IRB administration to program oversight and monitoring, assisting my institution and other institutions in Peru in the development of their institutional policies and educational programs in areas of human subjects protection, scientific integrity and care and use of animals. I have also been very active supporting the creation of IRBs in Peruvian universities outside of Lima, in compliance with a Peruvian mandate. This has involved training seminars, review of their policies and procedures, and advising them on compliance issues. Additionally, I have been involved in several scientific integrity training activities for the past 10 years, preparing modules for the original Responsible Conduct of Research Peruvian online course, coordinating curricula for short courses and workshops for local under-graduate and graduate programs, as well as speaking in various parts of Peru and in neighboring countries. Since 2019, I have been a member of the programmatic and planning committee for the organization of the World Conferences of Research Integrity held in Hong Kong in 2019, in Cape Town in 2022 and to be held in Athens, Greece in 2024. I am an attorney and hold a Masters in Bioethics from Universidad Antonio Ruiz de Montoya in Lima, Peru.

Ana Marušić (Croatia)

Ana Marušić is Professor of Anatomy, Chair of the Department of Research in Biomedicine and Health, and Head of the Center for Evidence-based Medicine at the University of Split School of Medicine, Split, Croatia. She is an Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh in the UK. Prof. Marušić was the editor in chief of the Croatian Medical Journal and the Journal of Global Health. She is currently Senior Co-editor in Chief of ST-OPEN. She was the president of several editorial organizations: European Association of Science Editors (EASE), Council of Science Editors (CSE), and World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). She currently serves on the Council of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Prof. Marušić’s research interest include evidence-based medicine and research integrity. She has published more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and was heavily involved with creating the policy of mandatory registration of clinical trials in public registries which helped change the legal regulation of clinical trials worldwide. She has participated in several EU projects related to research integrity and responsible research and innovation.

Mai Har Sham (Hong Kong)

Professor Mai Har Sham is a developmental geneticist with a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge. She is currently the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Choh-Ming Li Professor of Biomedical Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Sham oversees research, innovation and entrepreneurship development, as well as research impact and research assessment in the University. Professor Sham is dedicated to promoting responsible conduct of research in universities and institutions. She was a Co-Chair of the 6th World Conference on Research Integrity held in Hong Kong in 2019.
