Lex Bouter (The Netherlands)
Lex Bouter is Professor Emeritus of Methodology and Integrity at the Department of Epidemiology and Data Science of the Amsterdam University Medical Centers and the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Humanities of the Vrije Universiteit. He is involved research and teaching on research integrity and open science topics. He was appointed as tenured Professor of Epidemiology in 1992 and served his university as its rector between 2006 and 2013. Professor Bouter has supervised 78 PhD students, of whom to date 17 were appointed as professor. He is the founding chair of the World Conferences on Research Integrity Foundation.
Mai Har Sham (Hong Kong)
Professor Mai Har Sham is a developmental geneticist with a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge. She is currently the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Choh-Ming Li Professor of Biomedical Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Sham oversees research, innovation and entrepreneurship development, as well as research impact and research assessment in the University. Professor Sham is dedicated to promoting responsible conduct of research in universities and institutions. She was a Co-Chair of the 6th World Conference on Research Integrity held in Hong Kong in 2019.
Zoë Hammatt (USA)
Ms. Zoë Hammatt is a licensed attorney with a Master’s in Law and Ethics in Medicine from the University of Glasgow. She provides writing and research integrity consultation, and serves as Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. Zoë previously served as Director of the Division of Education and Integrity at the U.S. Office of Research Integrity, Legal and Regulatory Specialist for an NIH-funded translational research network, and Director of the Research Integrity Program and Research Integrity Officer at the University of Hawaii. Zoë is a founding member of research integrity networks in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and has served on the World Conferences on Research Integrity Governing Board since 2018. She serves as an Advisor for several programs, including the recently completed SOPs4RI project funded by the European Commission, which emphasises practical tools for research funders and research performing organisations.
Sonia Vasconcelos (Brazil)
Sonia Vasconcelos has a PhD in Science – Education, Management, and Dissemination in Biosciences, a field associated with the Biological Chemistry and Professional Masters Graduate Programs of Leopoldo de Meis Medical Biochemistry Institute, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). As an associate professor and head of the Laboratory for Research Ethics, Science Communication and Society, her main teaching and research activities focus on science communication, research methodology, and research ethics/integrity. She chairs the Advisory Council for Research Ethics at UFRJ and is a former member of the Research Integrity Committee of Brazil’s National Council for Scientific and Technological Development.
Lyn Horn (South Africa)
Lyn Horn is currently the Director of the Office of Research Integrity at UCT She is a medical doctor with a PhD in Bioethics. She worked as a clinician in the public health sector for the first twenty years of her career before transitioning to an academic work environment in 2004. Her academic interests include public health ethics and social justice, research ethics and more recently research integrity. She has been a member or chair of research ethics committees for the last 15 years (in both the biomedical and humanities domains). In her current position at UCT she is involved in promoting the responsible conduct of research across the university. In 2022 she was the South African Co-Chair for the 7th World Conference on Research Integrity held in Cape Town. She also led the process of developing the Cape Town Statement on Fostering Research Integrity through Equity and Fairness (publication in process).
Sabine Kleinert (Germany)
Sabine Kleinert is a Senior Executive Editor at The Lancet. From April 1, 2023, she will become Deputy Editor at the journal. She is a member of the Senior Management Team of The Lancet Group with responsibilities for research integrity, publication ethics, and Open Access policies. She served as Vice-Chair of the Committee on Publication Ethics from 2006 to March 2012 and was involved in the Conferences on Research Integrity from their beginning in 2007. She is a member of the Governing Board of the World Conferences on Research Integrity Foundation and was Co-Chair of the 7th World Conference on Research Integrity, held in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2022. Her background is qualification as a medical doctor in Germany and training as a Paediatrician and Paediatric Cardiologist in the UK, Belgium, Australia, the USA, and Australia.
Maura Hiney (Ireland)
Maura is Adjunct Professor of Research Culture in University College Dublin, and was previously a senior manager at the Health Research Board Ireland. She has been involved in advancing research integrity (RI) policy for many years, is Treasurer of the World Conference on RI Foundation and Co-chair of the 8th WCRI. She is on the Embassy of Good Science Foundation Board, Chair of the ALLEA Permanent Working Group on Science and Ethics, where she co-authored the European Code of Conduct for RI and was Vice-Chair of ENRIO until 2022. She sits on several EU Policy and Stakeholder Advisory Boards.
Daniel Barr (Australia)
Dr Daniel Barr is the Principal Research Integrity Advisor at RMIT University, Australia. Dr Barr is involved in management, teaching, and research in research integrity and ethics, and is co-author of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s Guiding Principles for Research Integrity. He was Co-Chair of the 6th World Conference on Research Integrity in Hong Kong in 2019, and Co-Chair of the Asia-Pacific Research Integrity Network Conference in Seoul and online in 2021. Dr Barr was awarded the Paul Taylor Medal for Excellence in Research Integrity by the Australasian Research Management Society in 2021.
De Ming Chau (Malaysia)
Dr. De Ming Chau is a senior lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is member of the Young Scientists Network-Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSM-ASM) and chairs the YSN-ASM Science Integrity Working Group. He is one of the co-founders of the YSN-ASM Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Programme. He is also a member of the Malaysian National Committee on Research Integrity. Dr. Chau actively conducts RCR workshops for researchers in Malaysia and in the region. He also develops RCR training curriculum that can be adapted for online learning environment.
